Every year many animals are given up to shelters.   After dogs and cats the third most given up to shelters are ferrets, the fourth are Iguanas and the fifth are Rabbits.
When we at Tiny Timbers say we do horse rescue. the word most people hear is rescue so that means we get calls to take in whatever animals they no long have a place for.

Iguanas do not make good pets they get large and can become aggressive and can be quite expensive to keep fro their equipment and dietary needs. I always say make sure you do a lot of research and go see full size Iguanas and make sure you are sure you want to take them on and remember with proper care they can live to be 25 years of age and become 6 foot in length. They do not ever make a good children's pet!

Bigboy is 7 years old and was given to us when his owners felt he was too aggressive and large.

Iggy is about 5 years old he was given up when his owners had a baby and they no longer wanted a 48 inch lizard in their house

Godzilla was a hurricane Katrina victim that was given a home but then his new home had to find him a new home when they had a baby and could no longer care for him. Godzilla has metabolic bone disease from past in proper care. He has recovered but he has limited mobility in his right arm and leg. But he is very happy here.

This bunny is very special. As you can see she only has one eye. She was bought at a sale for only 50 cents. She is one of our house bunnies.

Smudge is a totally house trained bunny. His owners had to give him up when they moved and could only keep one pet it was either their dog or Smudge. So we now have Smudge as our house bunny.

These are some of the ferrets people have given up because they didn't realize that ferrets are very active animals and require a lot of attention. Also some people think they smell but ferrets do have a musky odor if not cleaned and bathed. Before anyone gets a ferret they need to make sure they understand all of what owning a ferret entails.

Say hello to Harry. We got Harry because he was bought for children who didn't feel he was active enough. He is a regular couch potato.
